As a developmental psychologist, researcher, speaker, and author, I translate the psychology of mental toughness and internal authority into practical frameworks that individuals can immediately apply in both work and life. My work delves into the psychological capacities that shape human capability and development. Through research, speaking engagements, writing, and meaningful conversations, I study how mental toughness and internal authority impact our responses to adversity, our ability to navigate relationships, our decision-making processes, and our pursuit of meaningful lives.
My goal is to translate psychological research into accessible ideas that people can understand, remember, and implement long after our discussions conclude.

Growing up around the world in an Air Force family meant learning to adapt long before I understood the psychology behind it. Every move brought a new school, a new community, and another chance to begin again. Those experiences instilled in me the understanding that while circumstances may change, our responses to them shape who we become, a concept central to the field of developmental psychology.
Looking back, those early years ignited a lifelong fascination with human behavior and the remarkable human capability to grow through change. This intrigue continues to influence the questions I explore, the psychological research I pursue, and the work I share with audiences today.

For decades, I've been building capacity as a developmental psychologist. While raising four children, I earned four degrees, wrote books, launched a television show, completed doctoral research, and built a business—not by asking life to become less demanding, but by enhancing my human capability within it. Along the way, I've worked with individuals, led teams, and developed professionals, all while observing how people navigate challenges, change, growth, and possibility in countless forms. My experiences have reinforced a belief grounded in psychological research: our greatest growth doesn't come from waiting for easier circumstances; rather, it comes from expanding who we are within the circumstances we've been given. The capacity we build within ourselves has the power to create greater capacity in the lives of others.

Every season of my career as a developmental psychologist has pointed toward the same purpose: making a meaningful contribution to our understanding of human capability. Psychological research allows me to ask better questions. Speaking brings those ideas to life through conversation, while writing provides a lasting space for them long after the room is empty.
My hope is that every audience leaves with more than just encouragement. I aim for people to gain greater clarity, stronger judgment, practical insight, and a deeper confidence in what they're capable of becoming. If my work as a developmental psychologist helps someone think differently about themselves or others, then I've contributed something truly worthwhile.
